When a body is to be cremated, it is first placed in a rigid and combustible container prior to being placed in the cremation chamber. While the majority of cremations use a cremation container, many families also choose to  purchase a cremation casket.

A cremation casket is a combustible container that is free of metal and built to replicate a traditional casket. If your family plans to hold a visitation or funeral service prior to the cremation, we recommend purchasing a cremation casket. After the deceased has been displayed and the service has ended, the cremation casket will then be used during the cremation process.

Wood vs Fiberboard Cremation Caskets

Cremation caskets are often constructed from either wood or fiberboard. Although they both serve the same purpose, there are both pros and cons for each type. Ultimately, the decision rests on what will best meet your family’s needs and budget.

Wood Casket
Typically constructed from mahogany or oak, these types of caskets are durable and beautifully crafted funeral  products suitable for cremation or burial. For families looking for a high-quality cremation casket, we recommend purchasing a wooden casket.

Fiberboard Casket
Made to replicate a traditional cremation casket, these types of containers are made from fiberboard or an alternative material like bamboo or wicker. These types of containers offer a more affordable option for families interested in displaying the casket with their loved one during a visitation or funeral service.
